As a California native, I thought it was important to share the ease of traveling to The Bahamas. Many think it’s difficult to get here, but I am here to explain the ease of getting here!
The Bahamas is best known for its beautiful turquoise waters, the swimming pigs, amazing fishing, and great island vibes. But what makes The Bahamas different when compared to other islands? Why should people travel to The Bahamas on vacation over an island like Hawaii, especially when you live on the West Coast? I’m going to share some information with you that will essentially have you booking your Bahamas Vacation instantly!
It’s always confusing when traveling to another country. There are so many questions left unanswered. You’re stuck with TripAdvisor and Yelp reviews to guide you through your very expensive vacation. I’ll break down your costs, share the best things to do while visiting the Bahamas, and make sure you have the trip of a lifetime!
Paradise Vs. Paradise in The Bahamas
The biggest reason why so many West Coasters travel to Hawaii is that they get the best of both worlds, convenience & island vibes, all while staying in America. Hawaii does have many beautiful attributes, amazing hiking, nature, greenery, beaches, surfing, and all that jazz. They have a low-key island culture, interesting food, great resorts, and chill ass music.
Yes, Hawaii is great, I’m not taking away from that, but I do want to share all the reasons why The Bahamas should be your island of choice when planning your next vacation.
When you travel to the Bahamas, you are actually stepping into a completely different type of culture and lifestyle. Sure Nassau is touristy and will seem a little less like you’re visiting a foreign country. But the other islands, the other 700 of them, will bring you some serenity and happiness that I’m sure you won’t experience anywhere else.
The turquoise blue waters are literally, the most beautiful water you will see in the world. The palm trees filled with delicious coconuts and the miles of untouched beaches will keep you coming back to the Bahamas for years to come.
One thing that really sets The Bahamas apart from other islands is its people. Bahamians are some of the most fun, kind, and funniest people you will ever meet. They are very accommodating (especially on the family islands), they want to share their beautiful country with tourists, and they are always sharing local stories and places to check out while on your vacation.
In addition to its people and beautiful water, the Bahamas has a vibe about it that can’t be beaten. There is no hustle and bustle, there is actually no rush to do anything, and it will at first maybe stress you out, but eventually will make you feel extremely at peace with yourself. The Bahamian people take “island time” to another level, but while on vacation, what’s the need to rush anyway? Enjoy the calmness and the peace while sitting on a beach (probably all to yourself) and sipping a fresh Pina Colada, with rum of course!
Finally, my most favorite thing about the Bahamas is that it is a boater’s paradise. Life revolves around beach life and boat life. There is absolutely nothing better than renting a boat and cruising around the water in the Bahamas. The water is crystal clear, there are dolphins, whales, stingrays, sharks and so much more wildlife that can be seen in a day’s trip. The ocean wildlife will absolutely blow your mind. This is why renting a boat or chartering an excursion is absolutely necessary, if you don’t do this, you’re missing out on the best part of being in The Bahamas.
Flying to The Bahamas
You might think it’s complicated to get to the Bahamas, but my friend you are wrong. The convenience of flying to Hawaii is another factor that plays a part as to why it’s the most west coasters island of choice. 5-6 hours direct flight? Easy peasy.
The Bahamas are only 50-150 miles off the coast of Miami (depending on which island you’re visiting), with this being said, if more west coasters flew to The Bahamas we could actually have 6 hour direct flights, yep, basically the same flight time as Hawaii.
Currently, the easiest way to get to The Bahamas is by stopping in Miami. From Miami, there are daily flights to almost all the islands in the Bahamas. Nassau, Eleuthera, Exuma, Abaco & Grand Bahama are all accessible by direct flight out of Miami.
If you’re flying from California, the flight is relatively simple, 4.5 hours to Miami, switch planes, 30-45 min to any of the other islands. Much less complicated than most would think.
If your next question was cost then I’ve got you covered. Depending on when you’re visiting (and from where), prices are as low as $400 roundtrip, go ahead and check off “more expensive” from your list of reasons not to visit the Bahamas.
